Police in the North West have arrested one of their own in the ongoing investigation relating to the kidnapping of the Mohammed cousins in Brits three weeks ago.
The two cousins were kidnapped outside a primary school while driving to school.
At the time of the incident, the suspects bumped the victims' car from the front with a maroon Audi A3 to force it to stop.
The two teenagers were then forced by gunpoint into one of the suspects' vehicles.
The police Sergeant arrested on Tuesday is attached to the Letlhabile Detectives and is one of two suspects arrested in the latest developments.
Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says the Sergeant was arrested following investigations by the multi-disciplinary team tasked to investigate the Mohammed cousins' kidnapping.
"All the remaining six suspects are due to appear before the Brits Magistrates' Court on Thursday," said Mokgwabone.
"The team also confiscated a vehicle which was allegedly used during the commission of the crime.
"The number of arrested suspects remains at six. This after two of the initial six suspects arrested on Monday were cleared and released after thorough interviews."
The seventh suspect, 48-year old Humphrey Martin, was arrested in Naturena in Johannesburg two days after the kidnapping.
He has already appeared in the Brits Magistrates' Court on 11, 18, and 25 March 2024.
He is expected to appear again on Monday, 8 April 2024 for formal bail application.
