Two police officers were shot
and wounded in a shootout with suspects in Tembisa,
east of Johannesburg on Tuesday.

The police officers were on routine patrol in Tembisa when they spotted a suspicious vehicle.
The police's Lungelo Dlamini says the two suspects jumped out of the vehicle and opened fire on the officers.
The officers returned fire.
"One was shot in the leg, the other was shot in the abdomen," says Dlamini. "The suspects managed to flee and they are still at large."
Both officers are in a stable condition in hospital.
Police say a black BMW, which was driven by the suspects, has been impounded and will form part of the investigation.
