But Gauteng police says they do not believe there is any truth to the claims, as there are no records of these crimes being committed in the area.

Provincial police commissioner Elias Mawela says officers have only responded to a few incidents of crime.

“Voice notes have emerged and are circulating on social media about people who claim to be the victims of crime in the area.

“Police have records of three cases reported in the area that are under investigation. These voice notes not only cause panic to the residents but also compromise investigations on reported cases.”

Mawela says these type of voice notes only serve to divert time and resources away from the fight against genuine crimes.

“I strongly condemn this false information and call on perpetrators to retract these voice notes and stop the circulation."
