Police smash Gauteng crime syndicate

Police believe the suspects involved in a shootout with officers on the R21 near Olifantsfontein in the early hours of Wednesday morning are part of a bigger crime syndicate.

One suspect was killed, three arrested and one wounded during a high-speed chase and subsequent shootout.

National police spokesperson Vish Naidoo says the suspects are believed to be involved in burglaries and the theft of high value items in Gauteng and neighbouring provinces.

“These suspects are alleged to be part of a syndicate that has been stealing motorbikes, caravans, trailers and also responsible for house break-ins.”

“These suspects are currently in police custody, the one who has been wounded is in hospital under police guard and will remain there until he appears in court together with the others.”

The suspects face charges of theft, burglary and the possession of unlicensed firearms.
