Police top brass back in Mariannhill after mass shooting
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The police's top brass is returning to meet with residents in Mariannhill, still shaken by last week's shootout.
Officers gunned down nine suspected gang members at a property in Desai, west of Durban.
The group was linked to 26 cases, including murder, house robbery and rape.
National police spokesperson Lirandzu Themba says Minister Bheki Cele and Commissioner Fannie Masemola will meet with community members at KwaMamdekazi at the Dassenhoek Community Hall on Thursday morning.
"As part of ongoing efforts to flush out criminality through the aggressive policing intervention Operation Shanela, which has seen the arrest of over 500,000 suspects.
"The Police Ministry is turning its focus on improving community policing through fostering relations between communities and the police."
