Tshwane police captain back behind bars on charges of rape

A police captain in Tshwane has been remanded in police custody, while he waits to apply for bail in the case where he is charged with the alleged rape of a 20-year-old female police trainee.

The 59-year-old was also hired as a firearm trainer at the Tshwane Police Academy in Pretoria West.
The police Captain is expected back in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court next week for an opposed bail application.
It is alleged that last month the complainant walked past the accused without saluting him, which led the accused to allegedly reprimand the young trainee and accuse her of misconduct, even though the complainant explained that she had not seen him.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng, on 6 May 2025, the complainant was walking with her platoon to their bungalows when the accused allegedly called her to his office.
“Upon entering, it is alleged that the accused locked the door behind her and threatened her with dismissal for the earlier alleged misconduct of not saluting him if she did not sleep with him. He allegedly instructed her to half undress while he also half undressed and proceeded to rape her. After, he then told her to get dressed and leave,” said NPA regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana.
The complainant reported the incident to authorities at the academy, who contacted the police.
The complainant was then taken for medical attention and referred to the Laudium Thuthuzela Care Centre for further assessment and support.
The accused was arrested the day after the incident.
The matter has since been transferred to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for investigations.
