Polokwane police seize 37 boxes of abalone

The suspects will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate court soon for the possession of an endangered species.

An intelligence-led joint operation ,comprised of the Provincial Endangered Species Unit, the Polokwane Crime Intelligence Unit, the Western Cape Provincial Crime Intelligence Unit, the Polokwane K9 Unit, and the SAPS Polokwane International Airport have intercepted a possible crime syndicate which was transporting Abalone in the City of Polokwane on Friday night. 


According to the police's Moatshe Ngoepe the interception came after information was received about a grey NP200 Bakkie, which was traveling from Polokwane to Beitbridge. 


The vehicle was spotted on the road and pulled off.

"In the process, 37 boxes full of abalone with the estimated value of R7 million were found inside the vehicle and subsequently, three occupants were arrested," says Ngoepe. 


" The origin and destination of these suspects and the abalone will be determined by the ongoing Police investigations."


The suspects will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate court soon for the possession of an endangered species.
