Power supply restored in Joburg CBD
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
City Power on Tuesday confirmed that power had been fully restored in the Johannesburg CBD.
The inner city had been without power since last week’s explosion on Lillian Ngoyi Street.
The gas-related explosion claimed one person's life and left 48 others injured.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says they got the go-ahead to restore power from the emergency services, disaster management, and the Department of Labour.
“At least 100% of the resident load feeding from the Bree Substation was energized earlier today at 14:20. These include Bank City, Pritchard, west of Loveday, Jeppe, West Street, Diagonal, Sauer, Harrison, President, Simmons, JRA, and the surrounding area west of Bree streets, as well as De Villiers Distributor which is north of Bree Street and includes Wanderers Taxi Rank.”
On Monday, Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda, accompanied by City Manager Floyd Brink and city officials, visited the area to assess the extent of the damage caused by the explosion.
