Prepare for load shedding for the next 18 months: Eskom
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Eskom says it will continue with stage 2 load shedding until Friday - with a high probability that the rolling blackouts will continue over the weekend.
Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says the state-owned power utility is continuing with the dreaded power cuts in order to replenish emergency reserves for the coming week.
"We do remind the people of South Africa to expect load shedding, that will be a high probability during the next coming 18 months, as we are embarking on critical maintenance in preparation, particularly over the coming winter season," says Mantshanthsa.
When asked by Jacaranda FM News if the state-owned power utility has contingency plans in place to avoid load shedding this winter, Mantshantsha once again referred to the maintenance currently underway.
"The summer months are high maintenance season where we do most of our maintenance."
