Presidency commits to improving outcomes after unqualified audit
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Speaking at a cabinet briefing in Cape Town, Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe says the Auditor-General's report on national and provincial audit outcomes highlights the importance of monitoring compliance with legislation when dealing with financial matters consistently.

Auditor General Kimi Makwetu's report revealed that irregular expenditure in provincial and national government departments had increased by nearly 80% since the last financial year.
The report also shows the Presidency, which Radebe heads, moved from a clean audit outcome in the 2014/15 financial year to an unqualified audit opinion in the 2015/16 financial year.
Radebe says this is a concern for the Cabinet.
"While this audit outcomes of national auditors showed an overall improvement of 8%, Cabinet noted with concern the risk and the challenges as highlighted in the audit results. We have committed ourselves to address these pressing issues that have been identified and strengthening financial controls towards better audit outcomes," he said.
