The President's Keepers sold more than 200 000 copies since its publication in October.

South Africans spent more than R50 million in buying the book.

"I'm astounded," was Pauw's reaction when speaking to Jacaranda FM News on Tuesday.

The veteran journalist's explosive political exposé chronicles the manner is which former President Jacob Zuma and his supporters allegidly crippled the country's law enforcement agencies.

"When you write a book you hope for the best. When I wrote I had no idea that it would have such an impact. I knew that the book was going to cause an enormous amount of trouble, and that there would be a ferocious reaction from the state - but I never thought that six months down the line we would sit here and discuss the record sales of the book," says Pauw.

Various criminal charges have been laid against Pauw by the State Security Agency and the South African Revenue Service (SARS) for allegedly using confidential tax payer information in his book.
