Pretoria East power to be restored soon
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The City of Tshwane says a hardworking and dedicated team of engineers and technicians has defied the odds by working tirelessly overnight to ensure that power is restored in Pretoria East soon.
MMC Darryl Moss says power in all areas should be restored by midnight.
"Contrary to media reports that suggested power will be restored to the affected areas between five to seven days, the city can confirm that emergency areas like health facilities will have power after 4pm today," says Moss.
"We will then ramp up the load to bring the outstanding customers back on from 8pm and ensure that all customers have power by 12 midnight."
Several suburbs were left in the dark after a fire engulfed the Mooikloof substation yesterday.
"The team is now busy installing new cables to replace the burnt ones and re-routing the Woodhill Substation cables and isolate them to the correct panels. Once that is completed by this afternoon, testing will take over and certify," says Moss.
The cost of damage to the two sets of panels, roofs and cables is estimated at around R45 million.
