Pretoria taxi protests spread to Sunnyside

Taxi drivers took their anti-drugs protest action to Sunnyside in Pretoria on Thursday.
The protests started in the CBD on Tuesday after 45-year-old taxi driver Jabu Baloyi was shot dead by an unknown assailant.
The protests continued on Wednesday with police firing rubber bullets and stun grenades at the protestors, who also looted several shops belonging to foreign nationals.

A total of 24 people were arrested, including 12 suspects who were caught in possession of stolen property.
Taxi drivers are accusing foreign nations of selling drugs.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini says officers were deployed to the area but calm has since been restored.
"Police are at the scene at Sobukwe Street where there was a group of group people that were marching but the group has now been dispersed.
"We haven’t seen any acts of violence."
