Primary schools, special needs classes to return to normal timetable in July
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Primary school learning in the public sector will go back to regular school attendance as of July 26, 2021.
This is according to the new regulations gazetted by Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga.
This means pupils will stop going to school on a rotational timetable.
This will include special needs schools for pupils from Grade R to grade 12.
According to the gazette, the schools must ensure all Covid-19 protocols are observed and utilise all the space in the school to ensure that there is no overcrowding.

"A primary school and a school for learners with special education needs that returns to the traditional timetabling model must utilise all the available rooms or spaces at the school to prevent overcrowding in a classroom,” according to the gazette.
“Movement of learners must be minimised during teaching time with teachers rotating between lessons," it added.
Schools that are unable to meet the criteria set out by the Department to make special submissions for different timetabling models.
