The Cape Town International Airport, East London Airport, Port Elizabeth International Airport and Kimberley Airport will all soon have new names.

ACSA launched the #NameOurAirport campaign last week Thursday.

It is calling for proposals for the new names of the four airports, with the deadline for suggestions set for June 6.

“[The airports] are subject to renaming, which forms part of the Transformation of Heritage Landscape government program,” ACSA said in a statement.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) nailed their colours to the mast when it publicly announced that the party will support the renaming of Cape Town International Airport to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

The red berets’ leader, Julius Malema, made the call at the struggle icon’s funeral in April at the Orlando Stadium.

“There are very few places, spaces in South Africa named after women. It is not only a monument to the liberation of women in general, but it is a honour for somebody that laid down their lives for the democratic freedoms that we enjoy today,” says the party’s Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.
