Progressive Caucus set to discuss operations this week

The Progressive Caucus will discuss its operations this week following the exit of UDM and Al Jama-ah, who joined the government of national unity.

ATM leader Vuyo Zungula said on Monday that the remaining members, EFF, MK party, ATM, and smaller parties, will collaborate in South Africans' best interests.
Zungula also denied reports that the ATM will join the national unity government.
Although no leader has been elected, the caucus will discuss roles and structures, aiming to raise awareness about its opposition representation.
The ATM’s statement comes as President Cyril Ramaphosa urged political parties in the government of national unity “not to be preoccupied with jockeying for positions”.
Ten parties, including the ANC, DA, Patriotic Alliance, Inkatha Freedom Party, GOOD, Pan Africanist Congress of Azania, Freedom Front Plus, United Democratic Movement, RISE Mzansi, and Al Jama-ah, have signed the statement of intent to join the GNU.
In his weekly newsletter, Ramaphosa said the country’s hopes are pinned on the success of the GNU.
"South Africans made clear with their votes in last month’s elections that they want their elected representatives to put aside narrow interests and work together to build the country.
"To do so, the GNU cannot be preoccupied with jockeying for positions, tussles over appointments or squabbles within and between parties.
"The success of the GNU will be measured by the extent to which we are prepared to focus not on who will govern, but on how we will govern, together."
