Protests flare up at UCT
Updated | By Heart FM
Protesting UCT students gathered on the University of Cape Town's main campus on Wednesday despite earlier being dispersed by police during chaotic clashes with campus security overnight.
Chaos erupted after student protestors attempted to reoccupy the Steve Biko Students Building.
Several petrol bombs were thrown at the building, causing a fire which was eventually brought under control.
Protesting students held a vigil outside the building last night, but chaos broke out as students clashed with campus security.
Protesters also threw stones at security officers and damaged several doors and windows.

A security official and a SAPS member were injured.
The students vowed to continue protesting for free education.
UCT management said lectures will go ahead today as planned.
"The security staff has worked on restoring the area where the impact has been and we are going to be monitoring the situation closely. It is our hope and our intention that classes will continue without any interruption," the university's Elijah Mohololo said.
