Public Protector to oppose Zuma's state capture review
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane says her only job is to serve South Africa and she has no intention of being swept up in political battles.
Briefing the media in Pretoria, Mkhwebane revealed that she would oppose President Jacob Zuma's bid to review the state capture report.
Mkhwebane says she is concerned about the number of backlogged cases that need attention.
"I'm here to serve. We have more than 4000 backlogged cases dating back to 2011 and it's so unfair to South Africans to have such cases which we are trying to push and finalise.

"It's a question of doing our work and having a very capable team of investigators working hard to make sure we serve South Africans."
Mkhwebane denied that she would favour President Zuma or government when investigating cases.
"I'm captured by the Constitution. I'm not captured by any person. Hence, I'm here to serve South Africans and not any political party or person."
