Public service unions stand firm on 10% wage hike demand
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Members of several public service unions members held a picket at the offices of the Department of Public Service and Administration in Pretoria on Monday to demand a resolution to the ongoing wage dispute.
Unions are unhappy after government moved to unilaterally implement a 3% wage hike for all public servants.
The picket moved to the offices of National Treasury in Pretoria on Tuesday.
Popcru spokesperson Richard Mamabolo says there will be several pickets in the lead-up to an indefinite strike until their demands are met.
The unions are demanding a pay hike of 10%.
Mamabolo says they “will not allow government to continue taking decisions without consulting them”.
The unions, which include the Public Servants' Association, the National Education, Health, and Allied Workers Union, the Police, Prisons and Civil Rights Union, and the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa are expected to picket at National Treasury’s offices on Tuesday.
