A Grade 9 pupil at Thaba-Jabula Secondary School in Pimville has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a Grade 10 pupil to death.
The two boys confronted each other on the school's premises during lunch break on Thursday.
The Grade 10 pupil was subsequently rushed to the hospital where he later passed away.
Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona says from they have been able to ascertain, the Grade 9 pupil wanted to defend his younger brother from being bullied by the Grade 10 pupil.
"He then reportedly stabbed the learner four times during the fight and fled the scene.
“The injured learner was rushed to a nearby medical facility by an educator and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at while receiving medical attention.”
Mabona says the school’s doors had to be closed on Friday after parents disrupted the psycho-social officials' intervention.
"Sadly, this process could not go ahead as some parents stormed the school demanding the release of learners. Subsequently, school has been dismissed for the day because some learners began fighting among themselves."
Schooling is expected to resume on Monday.
