Ramaphosa: Coalition governments don’t work

President Cyril Ramaphosa has told the
Hellenic, Italian and Portuguese community that government coalitions do not
work.
Ramaphosa was responding to a question posed by an audience member at the Germiston Hellenic Hall on Tuesday night.
He was joined by various cabinet ministers including Aaron Motsoaledi, Lindiwe Zulu, Lindiwe Sisulu, Ayanda Dlodlo, Derek Hanekom and Susan Shabangu.
“All I can tell you is that in our own experience as the ANC, coalition governments don’t work as well as people say they work. In fact they are a huge impediment to development, to governance and they are a huge frustration. As for the ANC we are going to win the elections so decisively that we are not going to need to go into a coalition with anyone,” he said.
A recent IPSOS opinion poll has predicted that at least 6 out of 10 voters will be voting for the ANC in the May elections.
In a separate poll conducted by the ANC, results show that more white people are willing to vote for the party because of Ramaphosa’s popularity.
If the engagement with the Hellenic community is anything to go by, then the ANC may come out on top in the upcoming elections.
During the engagement, community members pledged their support for the ANC during the May 8 poll.
Portuguese representative in the HIP community, Jose Nascimeto, told the packed hall that his community will vote for the ANC.
“This presidency that you are going to assume, and I say you are going to assume, because I am certain that the ANC will win the upcoming elections. The ANC is going to win the elections because the ANC is the guarantor of stability in our country. The DA doesn’t have a plan, the EFF has less of a plan. We are looking to the ANC for leadership, for guidance and guaranteed of stability,” he said.
Nascimeto also told the president that the Portuguese community is willing to help the country with its skills.
“The Portuguese can help you Mr President, we have many skills in every sector of the South African economy and of life. We are very diversified in terms of skills. We have the skills to assist Mr President. We are part of a rainbow nation but we would like to have a bigger prominence within the rainbow nation. We would like to see a Portuguese South African within the ANC. In so doing the social cohesion of the country will be improved, we are committed to the country Mr President. We are going to assist you to make South Africa a great country.”
