President Cyril Ramaphosa met with organised labour from the two sectors.

It follows discussions last Wednesday with South Africa's largest exporters who rely on road, rail and port infrastructure.

At a briefing Wednesday, Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said last week's meeting focused on the state of the freight rail network.

A list of measures will be considered.

"Following these engagements the president has been considering a set of measures that will add impetus to the work that is currently underway to improve rail and port efficiencies and in line with the government policy direction for the freight transport sector in the White Paper on National Rail Policy and in legislation such as the National Ports Act and the Economic Regulation of Transport Bill that is currently before Parliament," said Magwenya.
