On Monday, Acting Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka threatened to subpoena Ramaphosa after he failed to meet the 18 July deadline.

Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says the questions were answered in writing on Friday morning.

"There was never any intention not to respond to the public protector, the president's legal team acts an open line with the public protector. Therefore, the public threat of a subpoena was grossly unnecessary.

"The Hawks are proceeding with the investigation with the full support and full cooperation of the president."
