Ramaphosa to open latest investment conference on Thursday

President Cyril Ramaphosa will kick off the fourth South Africa Investment Conference at the Sandton Convention Centre on Thursday.

The first annual event, which was launched by Ramaphosa in 2018, set out to secure R1.2 trillion over five years in domestic and inbound investment.
Presidency spokesperson Tyrone Seale says since the launch of the conference South Africa has attracted R770 billion in commitments.
"The investment conference provides a platform for South Africa to showcase a broad range of investment opportunities in the context of South Africa’s Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan and African continental free trade.

"The plan supports economic recovery towards growth and a rebound in employment through structural reforms and investment in infrastructure."
Seale adds that the conference will also feature updates on how earlier investmeent commitments have progressed.
Economist Dr Azaar Jammine says South Africans can expect more of the same this week
"One has to expect more of the same more commitments and more of an attempt by the president to convey his determination to undertake structural reforms that are needed to improve economic growth and improve the attraction of South Africa to foreing investors."
