President Cyril Ramaphosa has lauded political parties for their willingness to put ideological differences aside in the fight against coronavirus.
Ramaphosa met with the leaders of the political parties represented in Parliament in Cape Town on Wednesday.
The meeting came as the Department of Health confirmed that South Africa now has 116 cases of coronavirus.
Ramaphosa said the country’s leaders are united in their efforts to overcome the health crisis.
“We hereby demonstrate practically that we are united as the leaders of our nation to overcome this global crisis facing our country and our people.
“Regardless of our political differences, all leaders share a common desire to keep our people safe, to mitigate the impact on our economy, and ensure that the inevitable disruption to lives and livelihoods is reduced.”
