Ramaphosa answered questions on various issues in the National Assembly on Thursday.

He told MPs the delivery of services will depend on the political will, commitment and capabilities of the parties and individuals running municipalities.

“While there are certainly particular challenges associated with so-called ‘hung’ municipalities, these challenges are by no means insurmountable. It happens worldwide.

“And while the country’s experience of coalition or minority government at a local level has not always been favourable, it is essential that we nevertheless make these councils work, for the sake of the people of our country.

“We must ensure that these councils provide the services that people need and create an environment conducive to the growth of businesses and the creation of employment,” says Ramaphosa.

Meanwhile, the EFF leader Julius Malema earlier told the media that his party will continue to vote for any budget or motion that support service delivery.

“We don’t blackmail anyone, we vote according to what makes sense at that time, in every municipality. Anything that gets presented in the council, that is based on the best interest of our people we vote for it. In the municipalities, we don’t vote for ideology, we vote for service delivery.

“We are going to vote for any budget, we are going to vote for any motion that speaks to service delivery that wants to make Hammanskraal a better place and give the people of  Hammanskraal clean water.

whether that is proposed by Freedom Front Plus or not, we are going to vote for it. We are in it for service delivery for our people.”
