Ramaphosa: Poor South Africans undermined by healthcare system
Updated | By Samkele Maseko
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says poor South Africans are bearing the brunt of the country's ailing healthcare system.
Ramaphosa was addressing the 6th National Conference of the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) in Sterkfontein.
He says the poor are forced to travel great distances to access healthcare.
"You as the TAC must continue raising issues of negligence and corruption in the public healthcare."
Ramaphosa believes for the National Health Insurance (NHI) to be a success, the TAC needs to be involved in the roll-out of the system.

"We view the TAC as partner in our fight to achieve an HIV/AIDS-free generation. We don't see you as a protest movement.
"Over the past two decades of your existence, you have helped to mobilize our communities, you have held awareness campaigns and we thank you for that.
"We wish you all the best for the conference, may you elect a leadership that will further take the TAC to greater heights," Ramaphosa says.
