President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is confident his government will be able to ease the load shedding crisis within the next 12 months.
Ramaphosa spoke at the Cape Winelands District Imbizo in Paarl on Friday.
This comes amid warnings from Eskom to except a difficult winter, with stage 8 a real possibility during the coldest months of the year.
"I remain confident that within the next few months, and yes within a year we would have brought loadshedding down quite significantly and we will finally eliminate load shedding in South Africa through the programmes we are putting place," Ramaphosa said
"I would like us to have confidence in that, and at a national level, this is a key priority that we are facing, and addressing as government this priority is top of our agenda."
The president reiterated that South Africans will have a difficult winter.
"We are going to have ups and downs with regards to load shedding, because our generations units are old and they keep breaking up, and they are being repaired and we are maintaining them.
"The renewable generation is coming in, whilst we are going to have a difficult winter, but we are going to address load shedding."
