Ramathuba angry at lack of security at Tlharihani TVET

Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has lamented the lack of security at the Tlharihani TVET college in Bolobedu outside Tzaneen.

Four students of the institution’s students were recently raped.
Ramathuba said she had been made aware that the private TVET college only had two security personnel, one guarding the campus during the day and the other during the night.
On the night when students were raped, the security officer did not report for work after informing the management that he wasn't feeling well.
"So, you only discover around 19:00 in the evening? Can you also do your own investigation because we don't know," said Ramathuba.
"We don't want to blame anybody, but we don't know; if somebody is not feeling well, you don't call us now and drop us. That is the first thing.
"The second thing is that you can't have one security guard to be guarding this whole place. You can't have somebody patrolling and leaving the gate alone."
She told the management to stop accommodating students if the institution doesn't have the necessary resources.
"I'm going to be inviting [Department of] Higher Education to come and assess your institution to see if it is really qualified in terms of standards to accommodate students," added Ramathuba.
According to police, a suspect entered the college residence, forced eight students to undress and raped four before robbing them of two cell phones at gunpoint a week ago.
