Ramokgopa addressed the Progressive Business Forum breakfast on the sidelines of the party’s national conference a day after she was announced as the ANC’s new treasurer-general.

She is the first woman to be elected on the post in the party’s 110-year existence.

The financially-stricken ANC has been struggling to pay its employees’ salaries on more than one occasion.

Ramokgopa said while she has already identified cashflow and overheads as the two big issues.

"I am beginning to diagnose immediately after this breakfast to really be precise as to what the problem is

“But I have been privileged to be part of the collective of officials, led by the president, who have worked with the TG to really try and understand what are the contributing factor to the financial I'll health and what's really needs to be done.

“We do have proposals that we have put forward to the conference for relevant commissions to look at and we will be taking resolutions, we will guide the resolutions that have been taken, but one of them is the need to reduce overheads especially the high costs of personnel that are not necessary at each queue.”

She added: “We have a lot of MPs, past ministers who were working at Luthuli House, our headquarters, but many of them have got comfortable pensions that do not necessitate them to crowd out the critical expertise that we need at head office.

"Many good staff members have left for better and greener pastures and we would like to make sure that we close that gap and prioritise very critical essential staff.”
