Randfontein child dies of food poisoning

Police are investigating the death of a child in an alleged food poisoning incident.

The child was one of five between the ages of four and 10 who have taken ill.
According to the police, the incident happened at about 2.00pm on Sunday at OR Tambo squatter camp in Randfontein.
"It is alleged that the children were given poisoned sandwiches. After some time they started vomiting and the other one vomited to death. The [other] four were taken to hospital," says Captain Kay Makhubela.
This incident comes a few days after 20 children were treated for food poisoning after they ate drug-laced sweets at a school in Johannesburg.
Makhubela says parents are urged to look after their children and educate them to not take anything from strangers.
"People who give children poisoned food, after investigations prove that they did it deliberately, will be arrested," he says.
