Rand Water in court to stop SAMWU strike

South Africa's water utility Rand Water is in court on Wednesday morning to secure a court interdict against striking South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) members.

SAMWU members have downed tools on Wednesday to express their dissatisfaction with changed to their conditions of employment.
General Manager Tebogo Joala says the utility does not anticipate any disruptions to its services.

"Rand Water is an essential service and we have measures in place. To a great extent all our employees are in their position of work work will continue.
"We don't anticipate any interruption in any of our services and production of water and pumping up to various municipal reservoirs."
The matter is currently being heard in the Labour court in Johannesburg
