With the American tradition of Black Friday now well-entrenched in South Africa, the consumer spending spree got off to a bang on Friday.

By 6am, some shops had already done a brisk trade.

Debt Rescue CEO, Neil Roets has, however, warned consumers to avoid overspending on products sold at seemingly lower prices on Friday.

"We’ve seen in the past that people are spending more money than they can actually afford to spend and to help with that some of the retailers are offering them credit," says Roets.
