The young girl was in the car with her 34-year-old mother and 8-year-old brother.

Provincial police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie says the woman’s body has already been recovered from the ocean.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the driver of a white Fiat, with two occupants, drove over the cliff, but an 8-year-old boy managed to disembark from the vehicle. Unfortunately, the 34 -year-old driver, mother of both occupants, as well as the 2-year-old girl disappeared in the water.

The search operation was suspended on Thursday but resumed on Friday morning.

“At first light the search for the missing girl resumed with the deployment of police divers and emergency personnel on land and sea in the vicinity of Voëlklip as well as the Herolds Bay beach area,” Pojie adds.

Police divers, EMS personnel, ER24 paramedics and a rescue helicopter are among those embarking on the mission.

“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation and an Inquest docket was opened by the George police for further investigation,” says Pojie.

It’s not the first time a car has plunged from the notorious cliff, killing several people in recent years.
