Residents rescue police sergeant from Limpopo flood waters
Updated | By Bishop Baloyi / Press Statement
A 51-year old police sergeant had to be rescued by local
community members, when the police vehicle he was driving, got trapped in dangerously
rising flood waters near the Machaba village.
It happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning along the Machaba - Avon Marobjana road at ga-Kgoshi Maleboho.
Limpopo Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says the sergeant was part of a team that responded to break-ins at two schools in the Machaba village.
“The vehicle driven by the sergeant was trapped in water flooding the gravel road and the member managed to climb on top of it.”
Mojapelo says community members swam to the vehicle and rescued the sergeant, moments before the police van was swept away.
Meanwhile, an unknown number of suspects fled with three laptops stolen from the Ralekwalane High School, where they tied up the security officers and broke the doors.
The robbers then proceeded to the Machaba Primary School, where they stole another laptop and two projectors.
“The suspects in these business robberies are still at large and a manhunt is already underway to trace them,” says Mojapelo.
