Rhino horn bust at OR Tambo airport

A consignment of rhino horn worth R1.7 million has been intercepted by SARS Customs at OR Tambo International Airport.

SARS spokesperson Sandile Memela says the bust was made on Monday evening.
"The discovery was made when customs officials subjected a box for scanning and detected images consistent with rhino horn. Nine rhino horns cut into different sizes and weighing 13,2 kg were found," says Memela.

Memela says the consignment was on its way to Hong Kong.
Memela says the horns have been handed over to the South African Police Service and Hawks for further investigation.
"The bust follows on the heels of 7kg of rhino horn intercepted last Thursday."
