Custom officials seized rhino horns worth R23 million at the O.R Tambo International Airport cargo area on Thursday.
Gauteng police spokesperson Katlego Mogale says over 30 rhino horns were discovered by the police’s K9 unit in the airport’s cargo area.
"They came upon a warehouse where an export consignment had been packed to be shipped out. The K9 dog reacted positively to one of the shipments, which had been destined for the Middle East. Upon further investigation and examination, the consignment was found to be containing doormats as well as cut and laminated plywood."
