Rhodes student dies in fire

A Rhodes University student has died following a fire at a student digs in Grahamstown.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender said the fire broke out at a house in Milner Street in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Govender said it's believed that the fire broke out in the kitchen.
According to Govender the student's room was adjacent to the kitchen and he could not escape the blaze, while his housemates were able to make it out safely.
Rhodes University spokesperson, Catherine Deiner confirmed the death.
"A further four students were home at the time and fortunately the sustained no physical injuries," Deiner said.
Deiner said the incident has been deeply traumatic and they extend their sincerest condolences to the family and friends who have lost their loved one.
