Richards Bay terminals halt operations due to environmental concerns
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The Richards Bay Terminals, South Africa’s largest cargo port, has halted all operations following a notice to comply with environmental requirements.
This has led to congestion of truck deliveries from Friday afternoon leading to Saturday morning.
Regional Corporate Affairs Manager Msawakhe Mayisela says they received a notice to comply with an environmental matter at a section within its facilities.
“While the terminals have immediately responded with a program of action to urgently address the raised matter, operations have been ceased with immediate effect.
The terminals would like to hereby request that all transporters suspend all truck dispatches to the terminals,” says Mayisela.
He adds: “The Richards Bay Terminals would like to extend its apologies for the inconvenience this has caused to all its stakeholders. The terminals are optimistic of sooner resolve of the raised matter.”
