Row brewing over RDP houses in Mookgophong
Some community members have moved into shacks on some of the properties, even though the municipality says only those who've applied for the houses will be able to move in.
Municipality spokesperson Naphthaly Thloaela: "We're having the situation where people are just occupying land without following proper procedure, and it's affecting them whenever the plans of municipality are in progress."
33-year-old Katherine Baloyi says she was told that people would be moved onto another piece of land.
"We are ready to fight for these houses. They first told us that these houses were ours and now they are telling us that they are not ours anymore."
Community leader Mahlomola Mathe says the municipality did not consult with residents before starting the development process.
"The people have the right to fight for these houses because they have been staying on this land for more than eight years. Government cannot move people without consulting them."
