Rubber bullets fired as Univen protest continues
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
It has been another day of chaos as students at the University of Venda continued to protest over the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) allowance payments.

The university’s management shut down the campus on Wednesday until further notice.
University spokesperson Takalane Dzaga says students have vowed to not return to class until all students under NSFAS are paid their allowances.
“They have vowed to continue protesting and not return to class, but we continue to engage with them. We have not received a report on the rumours that some students have been injured by rubber bullets and teargas,” Dzaga says.
Dzaga could not confirm reports that a student was shot 18 times off campus.
“These are just rumours and we have not been able to confirm them. We do have police monitoring the situation, but police are deployed outside campus not inside,” he says.
