Rubber bullets fly in Bramley
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Several protesters have been arrested in Bramley, Johannesburg, after residents took to the streets this morning.
Several roads have been barricaded with burning tyres in the latest violent protest in the area.
Bramley councillor Irene Rugheimer says residents are protesting over two informal settlements they want removed.
"As the city, we don't have property available at the moment to move any of the displaced people to."
Rugheimer says the Johannesburg MMC of Housing has met with the MEC to try and secure land where people can be moved to.
"This takes some time, because the land has to be found, then secured and then arrangements have to be made to move the people. The residents want it done now and it's not possible," Rugheimer says.
Police have fired rubber bullets to disperse protesters.
