Russia-Ukraine crisis could be resolved through peaceful negotiations, insists Ramaphosa

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has reiterated his belief that the crisis between Russia and Ukraine can be resolved through the mediation.
Ramaphosa was speaking to the media during a visit to the Eastern Cape on Sunday.
It's been five days since Russia invaded neighbouring Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has since vowed retaliation against anyone who interfered and called on the Ukraine military to lay down its arms.
Ramaphosa says there needs to be mediation between the parties.
“We have made our position very clear, war in our view is devastating to everyone. To ordinary people, to a country where war is raging, and we have called for mediation. We believe that this conflict needs to be mediated and there need to be proper and positive engagements.
“And we have called upon the UN security council to immediately engage on finding ways for mediation and even finding outstanding mediators who will be able to engage with the leaders of various countries that are affected by this.
“Mediation in our view is the best way we were able to engage with our enemies and we found a solution to what was thought to be an intractable problem in the world of bringing apartheid to an end.”
