South African businessman, Justin van Pletzen - who spotted, confronted and filmed Ajay Gupta outside a building in Dubai last week - has been arrested.

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) says it's 24-hour consulate service in Dubai received a call from the family on Tuesday, informing government of van Pletzen's incarceration.

According to spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mabaya, there's no clarity yet on the charges Van Pletzen is facing.
"This will be made clear when South Africa's ambassador to Dubai visits van Pletzen later on Wednesday."

Van Pletzen spotted Gupta outside the Indian Consulate in Dubai last week.
"Indeed it looks like he has been arrested. What we don't know is what he has been arrested for. We have our ambassador visiting him this morning. We believe that we will then know what the exact reasons are why he was arrested."
Mabaya says they have no confirmation that the charges could be related to laws prohibiting unauthorised filming.
"It is possible that he has been arrested for something else except confronting Mr Ajay Gupta."
Family spokesperson Sebastian van Pletzen could not divulge any more information, but added Justin is doing well and will this week receive clarity from Dubai officials on the way forward.
