SA Covid-19 deaths breach 40 000

South Africa has reached a gruesome milestone after coronavirus related deaths surpassed the 40 000-mark.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize released the latest Covid-19 statistics on Friday evening.
Provinces reported a combined 575 more deaths, bringing the total to 40 076.
Gauteng reported the highest number of deaths in the reporting cycle at 166, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 133.
There were 11 761 new infections across the country, bringing the total number of positive cases to 1 392 568.
Mkhize also announced that the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) has given the greenlight for the roll-out of vaccines from the Serum Institute of India.
More than a million healthcare workers are expected to be vaccinated next month.
Mkhize says the nation will be updated on the process of the roll-out in the coming days.
