SA Covid positivity rate drops to 6.3%

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says South Africa's COVID-19 test positivity rate has dropped to 6.3%.
As the country strives to reach a 5% test positivity rate, the NICD recorded a rate of 6.3% in the 24-hours reporting cycle to Friday.
Thursday's infections represented a 6.5% positivity rate.
1 898 new COVID-19 cases were diagnosed with the most new infections in Gauteng at 707 followed by the Western Cape with 421.
The North West, the Eastern Cape and the Northern Cape accounted for the least number of infections.

Eighteen more people died of the virus, with two deaths occurring in the latest reporting period.
This brings the total fatalities to 99 517.
There has been an increase of 60 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
