This comes after the health ministry confirmed that there are currently 402 confirmed cases of the virus across all nine provinces.
SAMA chairperson Angelique Coetzee says citizens will basically be under house arrest during the lockdown.
"SAMA already asked the President and the Minister of Health on Sunday in a separate letter to please consider these measurements as we are concerned about the health of the nation."
"You cannot have friends over at your house, your children cannot go and play with anyone and you are all in house arrest if I can put it like that," adds Coetzee.
She adds that there is still not enough medical equipment available for doctors.
