SA needs the ANC: Nzimande
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
South African Communist Party (SACP) General Secretary Blade Nzimande insists South Africa still needs the African National Congress (ANC) despite the many problems facing the governing party.

He was speaking at the SACP's national congress being held in Boksburg.
During his address, Nzimande lashed out at state capture and those who allow it, asking whether ANC members standing up now will be enough to change the current downward trajectory.
He says while the future remains uncertain, the importance of the ANC to South Africa cannot be denied.
"Some comrades don't like this debate, but it's a fact - South Africa needs the ANC. Amongst the biggest achievements of the ANC, has been to unite the African majority in this country - a very important foundation in building a new South African nation," says Nzimande.

Nzimande says this SACP congress needs to establish its role as part of the tripartite alliance and within the country.
"What happens if the ANC disappears and is unable to rescue itself? Where will all of us be? What would that require and what would that mean? In terms of what we are seeing now there seems to be no realisation. When some of our comrades say let the rand fall so we can rise up with the economy, you just despair."
