SA Post Office no longer paying R350 grant at branches
The South African Post Office will no longer pay the R350 social relief of distress grant through its branches.
Thousands of South Africans have been relying on their nearest post office to access their money since the grant was introduced by the government in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown in May 2020.
Spokesman Johan Kruger says the decision is meant to ease the long queues at its various branches around the country.
"The application app now includes an option where beneficiaries can receive their grant from any Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers or USave merchant. The SA Post Office strongly advises beneficiaries to include this option.
“If you have already reapplied for your SRD grant, you can still select the option to collect your grant from any Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers or USave," says Kruger.
Kruger says beneficiaries will need their own cell phone number to withdraw their grant at supermarkets.
"If you do not have your own number it is best get your own SIM card and use that number to apply for your grant. You can also change your cell number on the website.
“Beneficiaries will be assisted to reset card pins at the cash pay points. The card can then be used at merchants at ATMs.”
Old age, disability and child grants can still collected from the post office.
