SA record more than 300 Covid-19 related deaths in one day

A total of 331 more people have succumbed to Covid-19 in South Africa over the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s death toll to 62 171.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reports there were 12 513 new Covid-19 cases Monday.
“The majority of new cases are from Gauteng 60%, followed by Western Cape 10%. Limpopo accounted for 7%; Kwa-Zulu Nata accounted for 6%; North West and Mpumalanga each accounted for 5%; Eastern Cape accounted for 3%; Free State accounted for 2%; and Northern Cape accounted for 1% of today’s new cases,” reads the statement.
Gauteng continues to record the most daily infections and recorded 7 543 new cases.
In their latest report released on Monday evening, the NICD says the country’s positivity rate shot up to 31.6%, from the 30.2% reported a day earlier.
This rate indicates the percentage of people who tested positive on the day.
A total of 14 365 people are currently receiving treatment in public and private health facilities across the country.
That’s an increase of 566 new hospital admissions.
